279 words (2 minutes)~ Emily has lost her best friend in a tragic accident. She speaks out for comfort from a friend who was always there.
There are people who give me comfort... when the going gets rough, I can count on them for a shoulder to cry on. And they will pick me up when I fall, and hold me in their arms while I cry and tell me that everything is going to be alright. I am so thankful for these people, they are priceless. Then there's another group of people, just as important and just as priceless...they're the people who challenge me, who push me to my breaking points, and who force me to muster courage that I never thought I had. (Smiles) You were both. A comforting best friend, and a truth telling challenge. At every break in the road you were by my side. Through every swamp in my path you pulled me through. You were there for me, even when I didnt want you to be, (trying not to cry) Always there, always watching. (Pause, gaining composure) I wish you could come back to me. I still need your shoulder to cry on, I still need your tough words to keep me in line. (Pause) I know you cant come back. I s! aw the car. I saw the glass scattered across the road. I saw you leave right in front of my eyes. Your dad gave me a ride home from the game. I turned to wave goodbye goodbye. (Pause) The other guy was drunk. One second and you were gone. Gone before we could walk down the hallways of high school. Gone before we could win another soccer game. (Pause) Whose shoulder will I cry on now? The biggest swamp, and no one to pull me through
